  8. of the Basque hard-liners, Jose Antonio Urrutikoetxea (alias: Josu
  9. Ternera), 38. The arrest last week of the ETA (Basque Homeland and
  10. Liberty) terrorist was hailed as a major breakthrough in a
  11. three-year Franco-Spanish offensive against Basque extremists
  12. fighting for independence in Spain.

  14.     Josu Ternera is thought to have been responsible for the
  15. assassination of the Spanish Prime Minister in 1973. Police believe
  16. the arrests will seriously curtail the terrorist activities of ETA.
